7:00: We are thrilled to have one of our own presenting at this month’s September meeting! Geoff Kornfeld is a local 3D artist who has been working with Autodesk software for over 20 years, and his diverse portfolio is a testament to the breadth of his artistic achievement in this dynamic field, including modeling, texturing, animation, rendering, character rigging and compositing. His long list of clients include names like Progressive Insurance and the History Channel. With a strong focus in archaeological reconstruction, he has also worked in advertising, forensic and medical visualization, and even made models for the game Age of Empires.
Geoff will be sharing cool things he learned on some recent projects, taking us through his process, and answering questions about his tips, tricks, and third-party scripts on September 18th.

7:00 : Raf Anzovin from Anzovin Studio is coming to our meeting this month. Anzovin Studio is an animation studio located in Florence, Massachusetts. They provide character animation and cinematics for television and game production. They have also produced award winning short films (Puppet and The Duel) as well as critically acclaimed computer animation tutorials and software, notably The Setup Machine. Raf will give us some insight in their character animation pipline.

It’s our 4th annual IronMax 3D competition, The reason it is on the 3rd is in celebration of 3December (http://area.autodesk.com/3dec2012).

Four teams will battle to the death in order to with the crown!… or other sweet prizes.
And by “to the death” I mean that they will have 2 hours to model and render a top secret scene.

We will start promptly at 6:30 in order to give our teams optimal modeling, texturing and rendering time. So, get there on time to see the kick off.

A part of this is the push towards clients being able to walk through and interact with the environment. The Unreal Development Kit has been instrumental in developing the next generation of vis projects.

Special Guest: Steven Roselle, games industry focused Solutions Specialist at Autodesk, who has worked closely with a wide array of game developers using Maya, MotionBuilder and Mudbox for game content creation. This involves software customization, workflow development and pipeline integration, as well as working as a liaison between game developers and the Maya product development team. Some of the game companies Steven has worked with include EA, Microsoft, SOE, Activision and Nintendo.

February’s AAUGA Meeting will focus on a couple of techniques for 3dsmax as well as one plugin.  The first presentation will focus on fast techniques to integrate photorealistic backplates into architectual renderings.  The second presentation will focus on how to use advanced modifier stacks in 3dsmax to model procedural architectural objects.  Finally, we’ll wrap up February’s meeting with a look at Itoo Software’s Forest Pack Pro, and how this plugin was utilized in the creation of Neoscape’s NSQ fall cover image.

Time to ring in the New Year for AAUGA!  January’s meeting will be a bombastic amalgamation of production tips, tricks and techniques!  The first presentation will focus on the process of combining multiple animated meshes in 3Ds Max.  The second presentation will focus on the production techniques used to generate Neoscape’s Holiday Card.  The third presentation will describe how to use a Autodesk’s free 3D CAD software 123D to generate 3D assets.
